April Frezza
April is 53 years old. In 2012, she suffered sudden cardiac arrest. Anyone who knows her would say she is the last person they would expect to suffer such a horrific event. She shares her story to raise awareness of heart disease in women.
She has been a career-oriented woman her entire life, deciding to work right out of high school. She returned to college in 1994 earning an Associate degree, and in 2011, she received her Bachelor degree. Most of her career was spent in Information Technology. For nine years she had a thriving career at Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, serving the last three years as the Logistics Director responsible for five departments.
She is now retired with her husband. Together they enjoy motorcycle riding, waterskiing and generally anything fitness related. One of her proudest physical fitness accomplishments is her successful completion of climbing 69 floors of the Columbia Tower in Seattle in the annual firefighting stairclimb fundraising event for Leukemia and other blood born cancers. Participants wear full firefighting gear, including turnouts, tank and breathing mask, weighing an additional 50 pounds.
April has been with her husband for 26 wonderful years. Her mother turned 80 in August. She has two older brothers, three nieces, and lots of grand-nieces and nephews. She is a native Oregonian.
April will be forever grateful to the dedicated men and women who saved her life.
