These are my grandparents. When Grandpa was 56 years old, he died in my Grandma's arms of a massive heart attack. At age 79, my Grandma had an emergency triple bypass. Because of this procedure, Grandma will celebrate her 102nd Birthday on April 2nd. Her only child, my 81 year old Dad, had a heart valve replacement two years ago, which has given him the ability to continue biking and skiing!
As you can see, heart disease runs in my family. And you may be surprised to learn that it impacts more women than men! Did you know that 1 in 3 women die from heart disease & stroke? That’s more than all forms of cancer combined! But my Grandma beat the odds! The second picture is of the great grandchildren who never would have known her without that surgery.
Please join me in celebrating my Grandma's life by donating to the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement. Go Red works to educate women that heart disease is our number one killer, and raises funds to change that fact.
I Go Red because I have had 23 years with my grandma that I wouldn’t have otherwise had, and because I want to set an example for my kids, in turn, of the importance of taking care of ourselves so we can have that cherished time with our families.
You can support the women in your life through a donation to this cause. I am kicking things off with a $250 gift toward my $5,000 fundraising goal. Please consider making a gift that is meaningful to you. Just think – if 20 of us contribute $250 or more, we could help fund the next big research breakthrough that might save my life…or yours.
Join me and make a difference in this fight!
