Sarah Mensah, Chair

Chief Operating Officer, Portland Trail Blazers

A 16-year veteran of the Trail Blazers, Mensah recently was promoted to Chief Operating Officer after serving two years as SVP Chief Marketing Officer. Mensah, credited for her success in assisting the Trail Blazers to revive its brand and financial viability, received an Orchid Award in 2008 from the Portland Business Journal. Under her leadership, the Trail Blazers launched many successful, widely recognized ventures such as the “Rise with Us” campaign. As a result, the team has experienced sequential years of rapid revenue growth and fan affinity.

Before joining the Trail Blazers staff as a Corporate Sales Manager in 1993, Mensah sworked in radio sales for Portland stations KINK and KUFO. She began her career in television production at KGW-TV after completing her two degrees from the University of Oregon:  One in journalism and one in telecommunications.

As a dedicated Oregonian, Mensah is an active participant on many local boards including her role as Chair of the Portland Schools Foundation board.  Additionally, she sits on the Board of Directors for the Portland Children’s Museum, the Oregon Sports Authority, the NW Autism Foundation, and has only just ended a six-year term of service to the Board of the Urban League. Most recently, Mensah was appointed by the labor commissioner to serve on the Oregon Commission on Civil Rights. Additionally, she co-founded the first Portland chapter of the National Association of Black Sports Professionals.

Mensah resides in Portland with her 10-year old autistic son, Davis, and is a passionate advocate for local and statewide efforts supporting autism research and awareness.
